Shopper! The Art Show A Curious Collection of Found Shopping Lists & Artists' Renditions of Those Who Made Them

Take a decade's worth of found shopping lists, add visual artists to reimagine the lists' authors, mix with writers spinning colorful tales of these shoppers, and you get a collaborative summer art show that's sure to deliver.

A closer look at Eggs.
I created Eggs using an experimental process. I began by taking hi-res scans of ledger paper, moving the paper around during scanning to achieve interesting distortions. I printed the resulting scan onto several different high-quality inkjet papers. Using a range of soft pencils from 3B to 9B, I tested the tooth of each paper to see which surface held up best. I settled on Hahnemuehle Museum Etching.

Many different sources went into this conceptual mockup. Photographs of Evelyn Nesbit (who inspired the Gibson Girl image), the New York Public Library's Maps archive, and postcards from Google Earth, just to name a few.
As I predicted, the distorded grid of the ledger paper background image informed and melded with the shapes I drew. I'm very pleased with the results and will repeat this process for future drawings.

I'm very pleased to announce that my painting That's When I Knew will be on display as part of the 27th annual Women's Works show at the Old Court House Arts Center in Woodstock, Illinois.
This juried exhibition, showcasing work by female artists, is mounted every year by the Northwest Area Arts Council of McHenry County, Illinois. Visitors to the show can also see Little Women's Works, a show by artists aged 6-17.
There will be an opening reception Saturday, 22 March 2014, from 7-9 p.m. This event is free and open to the public.
The show runs from 13 March to 27 April 2014. Gallery hours are Thursday-Saturday 11:00-5:00, Sunday 1:00-5:00. For more information, contact the Old Court House Arts Center at (815) 338-4525.
My thanks to the exhibition's jurors for their consideration and all the people who work hard to make Women's Works happen.
These days I'm spending most of my workday painting, since my new solo exhibition is right around the corner. Yesterday was a little different.
11:15 a.m. : Postcards arrive
I ordered my postcards from a new (to me) printer this time around. Their turnaround time was a little longer than I expected, but their rates are very competetive and the print quality came out looking great.

12:30 p.m. : Unpack postcards and affix address labels

Between the day when I last ordered postage stamps and the day it was time to use them, I expanded my mailing list by about 50 names.* Was it a problem when I ran out of postcard stamps? NOPE. I had enough first-class stamps for the remaining postcards.

2:30 p.m. : Sort cards into ZIP code bundles
I heard once that this makes it easier for USPS to sort and deliver them. Correct me if you know otherwise.
